Slugging

Slugging percentage is a valuable indicator of how well a hitter hits for power. It calculated a hitter's Total Bases/AB. So if a hitter is 1/4 with a double, they bhave gotten 2 bases in 4 at bats, so their SLG is .500. Slugging percentage is a good, simple stat but it does not take in to account the value of walks, which makes it a useless statistic for anything other than just checking a hitters power + consistency. A guy like Giancarlo Stanton, or Gary Sanchez will have a great slugging % because they hit for home runs, but a guy like Aaron Hicks wouldnt.
